Only one Victoria Cross medal was awarded on D-DAY - although there were many, many acts of bravery.

The VC was awarded to Company Sergeant-Major Stanley Hollis of the Green Howards.

Today, there is a monument to his regiment in the town of Crepon - just inland from Gold Beach.
