“Bloody
Omaha” was defended heavily. The most
critical and difficult part of the D-Day landings.
It was finally taken - but at a cost of over
3,000 casualties.
Above Omaha is Colleville U.S. War Cemetery,
the largest American cemetery in Normandy. The
resting place of over 9,000 American service
personnel.
Wherever
you stand to look, the White Cross and Star
of David headstones are arranged in perfect
symmetrical lines.
