Spanning
the Caen Canal, previously known as Benoville
Bridge - it was re-named Pegasus Bridge in honour
of the British 6th Airbourne, who landed in
the first few minutes of D-Day (6th of June
1944).
The name Pegasus derives from the division's
shoulder patch - the flying horse.
The Café Gondree, at the opposite side
of the bridge, was the first house to be liberated
in Normandy. Today, the café is still
there and run by the same family.
There is also an exceptional museum and monument
across the road from the landing site.
