The small town, inland of Utah Beach, was in the landing zone of the U.S. 82nd and 101st Airborne (The Screaming Eagles).

The church (L'Eglise) is where Pte. Steele famously hung by his parachute and was deafened by the church bells.

Today a replica Pte. Steele, complete with parachute - hanging by a thread, looks out over the town square.

The town is the home of the American Airborne Museum, housing many interesting artefacts and a complete Dakota DC3.
