Undeniably
the most beautiful of all Welsh mountain villages,
with its river and country walks - made all
the more intriguing by the legend of Gelert
the faithfull hound of Llewelyn Prince of North
Wales.
Llewelyn returning from
a hunting trip found Gelert covered in blood,
and his son and heir no where to be seen. Thinking
that Gelert had killed the child he plunged
his sword into the hound. Gelert’s dying
yelp was answered by Llewelyn's son's cry.
Llewelyn serched and
found the young prince unharmed lying next to
the body of a wolf slain by Gelert to protect
the young boy. It was said that Llewelyn never
smiled again.
