This
mighty castle and walled town was started by
Edward I in 1283 and in 1284 his son and heir
was born there, the first English Prince of
Wales.
In 1969 the present Prince of Wales, Prince
Charles, had his investiture there.
The castle, inspired by the Theodosian Wall
at Constantinople, looks out over the Menai
Staits to Anglesey.
The castle also houses the regimental museum
of the Royal Welch Fusilliers, the oldest regiment
in Wales, the 23rd of Foot.
